About Bracenet
Bracenet is actively working to restore our oceans to how they once were – free of plastic. The company uses ghost nets, which are carelessly discarded in the ocean at the expense of marine ecosystems, and gives the nets a new purpose. The nets are salvaged from the ocean and upcycled into new products, such as bracelets, dog leashes or keyrings.
Projects
Bracenet products are locally handcrafted under fair conditions at the company’s workshop in Hamburg. Bracenet regularly donates to Healthy Seas to fund salvage missions and preventative measures, and supports many other projects to protect the oceans and marine life.
Our consumption has a direct impact on the environment and our oceans.
Sustainability at mey
Slow fashion is a countermovement to the fast-paced fashion industry and prioritises quality over quantity. For mey, quality is not a trend, but a fundamental principle and our responsibility towards the environment, which determines the way we do business. Driven by our vision of creating a sustainable, high-quality and innovative future without compromise, we have always attached great importance to sustainable production and high-quality materials. Sustainability and fair working conditions are at the centre of our production – for ethically produced, timeless favourites that stand the test of time and combine sense with sensuality.
Fast fashion vs. slow fashion
Marine pollution is closely associated with the fast-paced textile industry and throwaway consumption – particularly through the release of microplastics. Synthetic fibres like polyester are used in the manufacture of textiles, which release tiny plastic particles during use and in the wash. These tiny particles end up in rivers through the wastewater channels, and ultimately, in the ocean. Microplastics pose a serious threat to the marine environment by polluting the oceans and causing harm to marine life. When consumers make conscious decisions and change their behaviours, they can help protect the health of the ocean and its living creatures. It is vital that the textiles we produce are high in quality and durability, to reduce the environmental impact of our consumption.
